No More Counter Check-in at KLIA2 for Airasia and Airasia X flights

In a statement issued on 17 May 2016, Airasia announced that counter check-in at KLIA2 will no longer be available from 18 May 2016.

Passengers taking Airasia and Airasia X flights at KLIA 2 should perform self-check-in by using one of the following ways:
  1. self-service check-in kiosk at KLIA2
  2. web-check-in through Internet 
  3. mobile check-in.
For Airasia or Airasia X flights departing from KLIA2, just follow the following steps:

(via web-checkin, mobile check-in or check-in kiosk at KLIA2).

  • Self-check-in is opened 14 days before the flight scheduled departure time. For domestic flights, self-check-in will be closed 1 hour before the flight scheduled departure time. For international flights (AirasiaX), self-check-in will be closed 4 hours before the flight scheduled departure time. 
  • Now you can also print the self bag tags for your baggage through with web-check-in. Just choose how many bags you have and print the generated bag tags. You can get reusable self bag tag sleeve from the baggage drop counter at KLIA2. Here is a video on how to print your self-bag-tag at home.

(for passengers who have check-in baggages)
  • proceeding to the baggage drop counters, for guests who have check-in baggage. For domestic flights, Baggage Drop counter are opened 2 hours before the flight scheduled departure time.  For Airasia X international flights, Baggage Drop counter are opened 3 hours before the flight scheduled departure time. Baggage Drop counter for both international and domestic flights will close 1 hour before the flight scheduled departure time.
  • Document check - for Airasia flights to Australian destination, passengers are also required to proceed to Document Check Counter or Baggage Drop Counter for document check. If you have check-in baggage, you can do document check at the baggage drop counter too. Likewise, if there is no document check counter available, you can do document check at the baggage drop counter. 
  • go through airport security check point, immigration check point (for international flight only) and proceed to the boarding gate of your flight. 

Assistance for passengers not eligible for self-check-in at KLIA2

For passengers not eligible for self-check-in such as pregnant passengers, passengers travelling with infant, passengers with special needs, passenger below 16 years old and travelling alone and passengers with a medical condition/illnesses, assistance is available at Airasia special customer service counter.

For those who still prefer to check-in at the airport, just make sure that you arrive at KLIA2 earlier and use the self-service check-in kiosk to check-in. Otherwise, just use web-check-in on airasia website or mobile check-in. For mobile check-in, you can download the Airasia mobile app from Google Play (for Android) or Apple App Store (for IOS).

Notice: Malindo Air KLIA2 flights have moved to KLIA effective 15 March 2016

Effective today (15 March 2016), Malindo Air KLIA2 flights will move to KLIA. Please take note that Malindo Air Subang Airport flights are not affected by this change and will continue to operate at Subang Airport.

Bus from KLIA / KLIA 2 to Genting Highlands

For tourists who want to go to Genting Highlands from KLIA or KLIA2, taking bus can save you a lot of money. The reason is simple:

The bus trip from KLIA / KLIA2 to Genting Highlands will take 2 Hours (similar to taxi trip time). 
The first bus departs from KLIA at 9.15am and KLIA 2 at 9.30am in the morning. The last bus departs from KLIA at  8.15pm and KLIA2 at 8.30pm in the evening. The detailed timetable / bus schedule for bus departing from KLIA and KLIA2 to Genting Highlands is shown below:

Bus Fare for Bus from KLIA / KLIA2 to Genting Highlands

The bus fare for KLIA / KLIA 2 bus to Genting Highlands is only RM35 one way or RM70 two-way return ticket. You will get RM2 discount if you book online via In other words, the online bus ticket price is only RM33 one way or RM66 two ways (go and return) if you book your ticket online in advance. Making early booking only is also advantages because you can secure your seat earlier. The bus can be fully booked during peak season such as school holidays, concerts or during festive seasons (e.g. Chinese New Year). Therefore, it is advisable to book your bus tickets in advance if you decide to take bus from KLIA or KLIA2 to Genting Highlands. 

Returning Bus from Genting Highlands to KLIA or KLIA2

You can also use the same bus service when you return from Genting Highlands to KLIA or KLIA2. The easiest way is to book a the return ticket online in advance. You will enjoy the discount of RM2 as well. However, make sure that you plan your returning trip carefully to avoid missing your flight at KLIA / KLIA2. Keep in mind that bus trip from Genting Highlands to KLIA2 will take about 2 hours. It will stop at KLIA2 first followed by KLIA 15 minutes later. It is advisable to take earlier bus where possible to make sure that you have ample of time to board the flight at KLIA or KLIA2 after arriving from Genting Highland. Taxi will be more expensive (RM271.20 for coupon taxi from KLIA/KLIA2 to Genting Highlands). Even if you share it among 4 persons, The cost is still about RM68 per person. On the other hand, bus from KLIA or KLIA2 to Genting Highlands only costs RM33 per person. Therefore, if you flight arrival time suits the bus schedule, why not try the bus service? Discounts for ERL's KLIA Express Tickets between KLIA / KLIA2 and KL Sentral

Effective 1 January 2016, the ticket price for KLIA Ekspres train operated by ERL Sdn. Bhd. has increased from RM35.00 to RM55.00 for a single trip. However, as a smart customer, you should take advantage of a number of special discounts offered when you buy ERL's KLIA Express train tickets.

How to get discounts when buying ERL's KLIA Express train tickets

If you buy KLIA Ekspres ticket over the counter, you will have to pay the full fare of RM55.00 for a single trip or RM100.00 for a return trip ticket. Obviously, return ticket is more worthwhile if you plan the use KLIA Ekspres for round trip. You can save RM10.00 by buying the return ticket.

10% Discount for buying ERL KLIA Express Ticket through Self-service Kiosk

Yes, you will get a 10% discount instantly if you buy the ERL KLIA Ekspres ticket using the self-service kiosk at KLIA Express station at KLIA, KLIA2 and KL Sentral instead of over the counter. Better still, if you are using Master Card (credit or debit card), you can enjoy 20% discount for your KLIA Express tickets, which means a single trip ticket will only cost RM44.00 while a return trip will only cost RM80.00 (or RM40.00 one way).
